Eastern New Mexico University Announces Plans for Agricultural Upgrades Fueled by State Investment and Reminds Voters to Vote on Bond 3 this November

PORTALES, N.M. – Sept. 4, 2026 – Eastern New Mexico University- Portales (ENMU) is building on its deep roots in New Mexico's ranching and farming communities with planned upgrades.

Backed by a recently approved $2 million bond and a historic $15 million ballot request heading to voters this fall, ENMU is completely transforming its agricultural offerings with brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities designed to educate students for the agriculture industry now and into the future.

The upcoming $15 million ballot request will fund a brand-new Ag and Arts building, providing cutting-edge technology, modern classrooms, specialized laboratories, and dedicated shop spaces.

This expansion builds directly on phase one of the University's growth strategy, which uses a previous $2 million bond to construct an advanced animal production and management facility. Together, these infrastructure investments and public support ensure that agriculture majors have access to the top-tier resources required to thrive in today's economy.

General Obligation (G.O.) bonds appear on New Mexico voters' ballots every two years as a proven, accepted method for funding vital brick-and-mortar capital projects statewide. Crucially, these improvements come with no tax increases.

Statewide, this year's higher education bond package will create roughly 3,500 new jobs in architecture, engineering, construction, and education.
