The Eastern New Mexico University System Receives Over $17 Million in Funding from the 2023 Legislative Session.

Portales, NM – April 21, 2023– The Eastern New Mexico University system received more than $17 million in funding from the 2023 NM Legislative Session.

"We greatly appreciate the elected officials in our area for their support," said James Johnston, ENMU System Chancellor. "As a result of their efforts, we can continue to support our mission of student success across our entire University system."

Eastern New Mexico University-Portales received funding for several projects on the main campus. The main project funded for the ENMU-Portales campus was $5 million to help complete the Roosevelt Science Center. With this additional funding approved by the state, the Roosevelt Science Center is now scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024.

Additional funded projects for ENMU-Portales include $472K for new STEM equipment, $500K for access control at Greyhound Arena, $890K for equipment and studio upgrades for KENW, and $500K for a new center-hung video board at Greyhound Arena.

Some highlights of funding approved at ENMU-Roswell and ENMU-Ruidoso include $1.2 million for parking lot and driveway repairs at ENMU-Roswell and $281K for a backup generator at ENMU Ruidoso.

Additionally, all ENMU faculty and staff will receive a 6% raise starting July 1. ENMU-Portales and ENMU-Ruidoso will also move their health coverage to an 80/20 model from the current 65/35 model for employees; ENMU-Roswell is currently using this model for their health coverage.

"We want to recognize the hard work of our faculty and staff at ENMU," said James Johnston, ENMU System Chancellor. "Our goal is to retain the talent that we have in our system, and this, in turn, helps the state of New Mexico as we educate the next generation of leaders in our state."
