Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound Sound Enters "For Whom The Band Tolls" marching band competition

Portales, NM – November 20, 2023 – This past fall, the Greyhound Sound took the field at stadiums across New Mexico, performing songs from the band Metallica.

Why was the Greyhound Sound rocking out to a heavy metal band that has dominated the hard rock scene for the last forty years?

This past year, Metallica announced the inaugural marching band competition for Universities and High Schools, titled "For Whom the Band Tolls," with over $180,000 in prizes to be awarded. Seven prizes are available, including one Collegiate Division 1 Prize, one Collegiate Division 2 & 3 Prize, three High School Prizes, one Fan Favorite – Collegiate Prize, and one Fan Favorite – High School.

"We are extremely proud of the work our wonderful GSMB students and faculty produced," said Dustin Seifert, Director of Bands. "All aspects of this show, including repertoire selection, choreography, and other visual content, was driven by our students. We value the process, love the product, and hope the show brings great pride and enthusiasm to Greyhound Nation. What a band!"

The ENMU Greyhound sound is in the Collegiate Division 2 and 3 category. The winner in this category receives one customized package of musical equipment of the school's choosing if they win the contest. The ARV of the Collegiate Division 2 & 3 Prize is $40,000.

The Greyhound Sound also has an opportunity to be recognized in the Fan Favorite-Collegiate Division Prize, which includes one customized package of musical equipment of the school’s choosing. The ARV of the Fan Favorite – Collegiate Division Prize is $10,000.
