Eastern New Mexico University Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking Presents "The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Portales, NM – January 22, 2026 – Eastern New Mexico University's Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking is proud to present "The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical," a smash hit musical based on the beloved book series. The theatre production is directed by Clara Kundin with a script by Joe Tracz, music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki, and adapted from the book "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan.

When teenager Percy Jackson discovers he is a demigod, he and his friends embark on an epic journey to find Zeus' missing lightning bolt and prevent a war among the gods. In the process, they learn about the importance of friendship and family. This show is appropriate for ages eight and older and fun for the whole family.

"The cast and crew have been hard at work practicing sword-fighting, puppetry, alongside the song and dance to create the magical world of the play," said Clara Kundin, faculty member and production director. "Whether you love the books or have never read them, this show has something fun for everyone."

The production opens on February 26 and continues throughout the weekend in the University Theatre Center (UTC) Mainstage Theatre. Pricing is $10 for general admission, free for ENMU students with a current ID, and $7 for seniors, active-duty military, and current ENMU faculty/staff.
