ENMU’s Personal Touch and the College Community

Chapter 5: ENMU’s Personal Touch and the College Community

Points to Ponder: At Eastern, you're more than just a number. With a student to faculty ratio of 17:1, you'll get the personal attention from your professors that you wouldn't get at a larger school. You'll soon find that our professors are some of the most hands-on, involved faculty in the region. We're dedicated to seeing you succeed, not only academically, but also professionally and personally. Our motto is student success–that's what it's all about.

Of course the best way to get a feel for a campus is to visit. Not only will you get a firsthand look at classrooms, facilities and classes, but you'll also get a chance to talk with professors and students. A visit to our campus can show you what Eastern has to offer. While you're here, you'll see our trademark personal touch and our devotion to helping students succeed.

Your Family is Part of the Eastern Family: We encourage parents to talk with faculty and staff and to ask any questions they may have about Eastern.

The Eastern Touch: Eastern boasts a diverse faculty and student body. Students attend Eastern from 51 states and 29 countries. Few academic environments rival the number of social and cultural viewpoints that Eastern's professors and students bring to classrooms every day.

Our students also receive the benefit of a strong The Office of Multicultural Affairs that brings community spirit to Eastern, enhancing both the academic and social aspects of college life.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is conveniently located on campus and supports the following offices:

Life in Portales: Our rural community blends the tradition of the past with modern development to create a truly unique atmosphere. Eastern has a strong relationship with Portales and the surrounding communities, providing an exceptional quality of life that will make you feel you belong.

Portales is home to Eastern New Mexico University with an enrollment over 6,000, it’s known for amazing student achievement and affordable tuition. Portales is also home to numerous Air Force families from nearby Cannon Air Force Base. The base is home to the 27th Special Operations Wing. Area citizens take great pride in the accomplishments of Cannon’s Air Commandos who continually serve extensive tours of duty all over the globe.

The most remarkable thing about Portales is without a doubt the friendliness of its people. As you roll into town you’re reminded of that fact by billboards proclaiming “Welcome to Portales, home of 17,000 friendly people and three or four old grouches.” No, we’re not perfect, but chances are you won’t run into one of the grouches too often.

Did You Know? ENMU's Counseling Center provides services to students at no cost. From coping with homesickness or culture shock to dealing with the changes in your relationships with family and friends, our counselors are ready to lend a hand.
